What is the Difference Between a Divorce and a Dissolution of Marriage?
The short answer is that there is no difference between a divorce and dissolution of marriage, except for where you live. Each state has its own laws regarding families, children and marriage. In some states, the process of ending a marriage is known as divorce and in others its called dissolution of marriage. Florida Statutes Chapter 61 has defined this procedure as the dissolution of marriage. Therefore, when you seek to end your marriage in Florida, your attorney will file a petition for dissolution of marriage and, when the case is concluded, the judge will enter a final judgment of dissolution of marriage.
